Here is one that has been killer for me

Body mirage tinsel covered with d rib
Thorax peacock ice dub
Hackle brahma hen saddle
Hook dai riki 075 wet fly hook

Wow! The mirage tinsel reflects a lot of light back through the D-rib. What a great attractor pattern.

I haven't had to try other colors. The one place I fish with it , I couldn't keep them off the hook lol.
Just cast it out, let sit for a few seconds, then slow ,short strips.

Did you notice any particular hatch associated with the pattern's effectiveness? What kind of Stillwater were you fishing? Caddis, chironomids I'm thinking or juvy baitfish even.

I started fishing this fly at the end of April. It worked EVERY time (and I fished several times a week )until the water iced up in November. Sometimes there were hatches, sometimes there wasn't. Didn't matter, this knocked them out. I could make 10 casts and hook 8 fish. It was crazy. The ponds have pretty good insect life. Callibaetis, midges, damsels ect. My guess is it looks like an emerger of some sort. Or a water boatman. That glow looks like an air bubble. Either way, it slayed them.

Ever try it in a stream? If so, did it work there too?

I haven't. My guess is it would work during a caddis hatch or an egg laying flight.

Well, it works in rivers too. Missouri river browns and rainbows like it

Love the body on this. going to tie some up to try out on the local still water tomorrow. Thanks!
