Dark Tan

I tied a few of these up. Inspired by Williams Tan Flymph.
Too much Cinnamon rabbit fur was added to my dubbing blend. Hence, Dark Tan

Hook, Hanak size 14 (BL)
Thread, Bennechi 12/0, Tobacco
Collar, Honey Dun, India Hen
Abdomen, Pearl Mylar wrapped over a thread base
Tail, Honey Dun, India Hen
Rib, Tan dubbing in a split thread
Thorax, Dark tan Ostrich
Image

Yep, buggy looking.

This one I like, I will take a dozen #14 and a dozen #16!
This is a great looking just below the film pattern to cover Mayfly hatches here.
Nice idea with the solid mylar abdomen and the dubbing rib, kind of reverse engineered, very clever.

Nice tie, just the abdomen and hackle sized down to about a #22 would make a great midge as well. ;)

Thanks you two. I was going to tie some with Copper, and some with a Blue mylar, but I got told I have to roast and peel 60lbs of Green Chilies! They are roasted, now the peeling. Watch where I place my hands for the next 24 hours.

DUBBN, Howdy;

If they came from my part of NM then they spell it CHILE. But, if you
have those sub-standard, want-ta-be Co. varity then you probably spurlled it right.

Oh, nice lookin fly by the way... ;)

The construction you've used, Wayne, looks to be very versatile ... just change the sizes and colors and you've got any number of emerging/drowned morsels. Very nicely done!

Wow, that is a beautiful fly. I bet this looks even nicer when it gets wet. I need to give these a try. I just bought a feather duster, which has herl feather that look like they would work well for this fly. The herl is more of a tanish-grey, so my flies will be a variation.

Well done Wayne.

I have been trying to find this color ostrich for years. Fly shops, hobby stores. Even costume stores. No luck yet. The best way to describe it would be Tan, but it really wants to be Orange. It has been a great color for me, especially for large caddis pupa in the Spring.

Some day when I am not thinking about it, I will look up and see one in a ladies hat. Poor lady will never know what hit her!
