A Tan Flymph

Just for kicks I grabbed a few flies from around my gear, either off a hat or a patch, etc to photograph. Some are more photogenic than others, but this one, I remember very well a couple years ago catching 3-4 nice browns in Central PA. I must have switched for some reason and put this one in my hat. The body is some kind of mystery blond, coarse, tannish underfur from a patch of hide gifted to me. Most likely a dyed opossum or badger. This one still have a lot of life in it and I'm certain it didn't look any nicer when it came off the vise.

"Scruffy", in a desirably fishy sort of way. Well done William.

That is a nice looking fly, the kind of fly one would choose from a fully stocked fly box when nothing much else was working.
The dubbing looks a little too translucent for possum, but it could be.

If tan caddis were popping on the river, your Tan Flymph would be the first pattern chosen.

There are times on the Upper Delaware system in April and early May when this would simply kill.

Could be the nearest I've seen you almost approach the pre-chewed aesthetic.

William,
A Tan Flymph......Yes! I love it! Yours is soo cool as compared to mine which is so ordinary looking! Very buggy, very scruffy looking pattern! It's a new classic for sure! I think I am in love....with the pattern of course!
I am viewing history in the making!!

Thanks again. I forgot about this post. The hackle still has that slimed and well fished look. It should liven up if it gets fished again. It's a fairly webby speckled hen hackle when it's fresh.

Swellcat, that prechewed body is actually just genuinely chewed. This dubbing and underbody color combo is one of my favorites. I need to more of these in my box.
