FLYMPH FORUM

Seems to be a theme the past couple years culminating with Ray's snowshoe challenge in January (http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... t=snowshoe), and I don't see any reason why it will slow down. I love tying with snowshoe. The white fly hatch in PA and a few caddis patterns prompted a few flymphs with a snowshoe body. Several of us did well with a snowshoe flymph for the White Miller caddis hatch in Montana last spring and I strung a number of pre-tied dropper rigs with a P&O on point and a pale snowshoe flymph as a dropper. I expect these to do well next fall as well. Several of these patterns are beginning to merge, but Bill's recent Hidy style snowshoe flymph pattern with the grizzly hackle (http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6466) inspired a string of flies that I'll have in my boxes. Here are a couple.

Those would make really nice swap flies...just sayin...

Bet the adopt a translucency when wet that would liken Snowshoe hare to natural Seal?

Thanks, fellas. I'll definitely fish these hard next year. I tied a couple with a bright white thread body and they seem unnatural. Bright white may be a trigger but it doesn't look right at the vise. I'll have to test them. I also tied a few with pale grey silk, like the flies with the biot body but it gets very translucent. The snowshoe really becomes a ghost of a material when wet so the underbody is critical like with seal. Maybe a test between those two materials would be good too.
I'm definitely spending a disproportionate amount of time thinking about this hatch. Maybe while I'm at it a ghost fly might be just the thing for the swap.

That settles it then- they are Casper flymphs, no longer Snowshoe flymphs.

Great use of Grizzly hackle. That combination should make a very effective contrast. I am sure these patterns can be used from top to bottom of most rivers.

I may try something similar with Jack Rabbit.
