This one is the July dun
Hook........kamasan b160 #14
Silk..........primrose pearsall's well waxed
Body........very sparse mole fur.
Wing........starling primary
Legs.........coot hackle hacked as usuall.

This fly has been very reliable as of late, when all else has failed!!

Dave these pics are great. And the flies are spot on. I have looked at those micro lens add ons for iPhone but haven't fooled with one. Glad to see the results. Perfect for our purposes here.

Thanks William. I got the lens on eBay for about €4 and the shipping was free from china. Cool widget I think.

I have been tempted to get a macro lens for my iPhone, but have not been able to test one before hand. Your photos prove the lens does a nice job. Thanks for making it harder to resist buying the lens. :D ;)

Capital killer flies, by the way. Really nice!

tmd, that Black Snipe is spot on! The short, slim herl body is key, for sure.
Cheers,
Jim

I would not hesitate to fish your Black Snipe over here. I often tie a "Purple Snipe" with more of a silk abdomen- less of a Peacock herl Thorax and Snipe or Starling hackle, basically a Henthorn Purple (Harold Howorth) and it is a "go to" fly for me. No reason a shorter representation should not work here.
Like the looks of the B160 hook (used on your July Dun) as well. Short shank #14 gives a #16-18 fly body with a wide gape.

Now, must go and look at these iphone lenses....... ;)

Wow I'm flattered! I didn't think my tying was any good. Just fudging along with my stubby cement hardened hands!!
Thanks for the complements.
