I know that it's just another variation on the Waterhen Bloa, but I'm hoping that the markings on the hackle may spur takes otherwise not made by wary late season trout ...

Hook: Daiichi 1550, Size #16
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #3 Primrose
Hackle: From neck of Gamble's Quail
Body: Tying thread touch dubbed with natural mole

Very interesting. I am sure if you fish it with the same confidence that you fish the Watherhen Bloa, you will get the desired results. Great technique sir.

Really nice combination, Bill. I can't prove it, but I believe in patterns with higher contrast like this. I'd certainly fish this with high expectations. Beautiful technique, Sir.

Very handsome fly, Bill. Really nice combination of materials. Should serve well as a blue dun pattern.

This is quite nice and I like the black tips on the hackle for sure. I would think that the contrasting black tips moving about in the water would only heighten the movement and attractiveness of the pattern.

Really like the proportions to this one- near a #18 fly on a #16 hook, I like that way of thinking. Silk, Mole and a contrasting hackle- what is not to love, both to the eye of a fisher and the menu of a trout.

Bill,
This pattern is astounding! It looks alive! You have the ability, like all the great ones, to make materials come to life!
Keep us fed Bill! What you are making is beyond compare!

Bill,
An update....the pattern above, Gambel's Quail and Mole on Primrose, is just what the doctor would order on the ravenous bluegills that I have been banking lately. These fish have been crazy eating everything that comes over their heads. The hackle on this pattern is unreal! The contrasting light and dark barring is so buggy looking. It has Waterhen Bloa written all over it for sure and it is bound to be killing where ever it falls!
What's next Bill? We can't wait to see!!
