Endrick Spider

The name of this pattern crops up in articles every now and then, so I did a Google search to find out what the fuss was about. Here's link to a good synopsis:

With the outstanding reputation attributed to it here and other places, I simply had to try tying some. The results look pretty much like the photos I've seen; we'll find out how the fish feel about it come Troutoberfest weekend.

It is a very good fly. I have taken fish on streams and lochs.
Good luck when you try it.

Beautiful dressing Bill. Let's give these a swing in Roscoe.
I love the taper of the body and the flawless craftsmanship.

tie2fish, Howdy;
Mr. Bill, You tie one mean fly Sir! What size did you tie this one in?
Is the recipe the same as that in the article you linked or did you
do anything different or special?

Bill, it's an excellent example. I still like that it has a name. =). It's pheasant tail and partridge....no name required really, and how could it miss?

This is tied on a #14 Daiichi 1550, Hank, and the only difference between it and the recipe is that the partridge is probably a bit more brown on mine. I have since dug out a partridge skin with more distinctly grey neck feathers and will tie some using those to see if the fish care.
William, you are right of course about the primary materials; the differences (flat body wraps and silver rib) are minimal.

Boy the rib on this fly is very catchy. Not in a bad way either, very subtle.
Can't wait to see you in Roscoe, Bill!

I have often, actually more than just often, seen this tied with a red wire ribbing as well and with a gold or copper beadhead.

Mr, Bill, Howdy;
Man am I slow today or what ...?
Of course a PT & Partridge 2 of the biggest
sellers on the menu sort of the trout equivalent
of a Hatch Green Chile Cheeseburger w/bacon in one hand and
a Porter House Steak in the other ...
