Many feathers on a mallard, drake and hen, are under utilised in my mind. Here is one possible use for the mallard drake copper colored throat feathers.

Hook: Kamasan B175 #12
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, black
Hackle: Mallard drake copper throat
Body hackle: Whiting Farms Coq de Leon, medium pardo
Rib: Wire, silver fine
Body: Embroidery yarn, chestnut
Tail: Mallard drake copper throat barbs

Just lovely Hans. I really like the way you use long hackle. The profile of this fly, when wet, is effective. Suppose you could fish it dead as well as a streamer.

I tie in rib, body and tail materials in close to the eye. It guarantees a level underbody.

On a pattern such as this - hardly a big thing, but on skinny body flies it really pays off.

For example here - the thread never leaves the thorax area.
