Wish I had a couple of these in my fly box this afternoon. I would have gladly given them a swing as I was fishing. Looks like a very effective dubbing blend Hans.
Beautifully tyed as always.

This looks like it will be an extremely effective pattern, and although I don't have all of the ingredients in my collection of materials, I hope I'll be able to achieve the same effect with some substitutes. Thanks, Hans, for the inspiration.

tie2fish,
It is very much a generic pattern, an approach. It begs to be experimented with using the materials of your choice.
Please share any results with us

care to elaborate a bit on the hair-hackle technique. I know I could any bit of information I can get at this point. I've pretty much resolved to the "tie in with tips over the eye and fold it back" method. Which did you choose for this?
thanks,
w

William,
Tips over eye, first material tied in. Fold back and secure as final step before whip finish.

Hi Hans;
Do you tie the hackle tips foward over the eye then dub the body and finally tie the tips back to form the collar?

Wayne,
No hackle tips, but a bunch of hair - otherwise correct.

Hans - I don't have the equipment needed to post photos, but following are the ingredients I've used to create two versions of your "generic" pupa:

Thread: Uni-Thread 8/0, Camel
Hackle: Mink guard hair
Rib: Ty-Master antique gold wire
Body: Mix of Possum Plus* "burnt orange" (70%) and
Possum Plus "rust" (30%)
* This is a Spirit River product combining opposum
fur and antron
Hook: Mustad C49S, #16
Thread: Unit-Thread 8/0, Olive dun
Hackle: African mouse deer hair, varigated brown
Rib: Fine oval gold tinsel
Body: Hareline Ice Dub, Olive
