Neo
This one evolved from my search for alternative materials to use for Ammonite nymphs, and it owes a lot to the techniques and material use shown to us by Hans in his "produce" range of flies.Don't ask me about the hook, it's from a packed that I found in the bottom of one of my hook drawers. I think I bought them about 20 or 30 years ago Other than what's stated below I can only tell you that they are blued, fine wire and short shanked.
NEO
HOOK - Aiken Fine Wire Eyed Hook #10
THREAD - Red Roman Moser Power Silk
HACKLE - Red Game Hen
BODY - Tying Silk
RIB - Neo Orange Neon Edge (1mm strip cut with a scalpel)
THORAX - Red Seal's Fur (inserted into a split thread dubbing loop)

Re: Neo
Oh no... what have I unleashed onto the unsuspecting tying community
Interesting critter Dennis. What is the "Neo" material in its original form?
Cheers,

Re: Neo
Oh that's cool! I like the hot color scheme. Bet it would work great on panfish, too.

Re: Neo
It's a flat sheet, similar to Flexibody, but a bit thicker and the cut edge has a glow effect.Hans Weilenmann wrote:Interesting critter Dennis. What is the "Neo" material in its original form?
I can't find any pictures of it, but I have found Hareline Edge Bright which appears to be the same thing..

Re: Neo
Thanks Dennis. What does it look like when you twist/cord the 1mm strip you cut?

Re: Neo
I didn't try twisting it Hans. I don't think it will stand twisting and my initial thoughts were to keep it flat to preserve the glow.Hans Weilenmann wrote:Thanks Dennis. What does it look like when you twist/cord the 1mm strip you cut?
If you want I'll cut a strip off (more than 1mm) and stick it in an envelope for you to play with?

Re: Neo
*chuckle* Dennis, you of all people should know a flytier never turns down an offer to try out a new material. You know where to find me, and thanks!
And while you are at it - slip in a couple section updates?
Cheers,
Hans W

I'll stick it in the post Tuesday.
The section updates I'll send in a few weeks.

After saying I didn't think it would stand twisting I thought I better try. Guess I was wrong.... again!scotfly wrote: I didn't try twisting it Hans. I don't think it will stand twisting
Dressing is the same except the Neon Edge is twisted and this time it's tied on a Kamasan B170 #14
And, of course I couldn't resist a little variation...
Trinity
