What can I say...
I was given a small strip to play with, but pretty much any fine guardhair will do. Pine squirrel would work excellent for the pattern.

Nice execution on the hair hackle. That turned out very nicely. Its hard to guage from the pic, how stiff that hair hackle might be. Care to describe it a little further?

William,
Pretty much like the outside hair on a hare's ear. Or like pine squirrel body guard hair.

Han's how do you prepare your seal for dubbing and what method do you use for dubbing the seal?

Just loose seal's fur. For a thorax I would make a standard dubbing noodle by wrapping the dubbing around the thread. For more slender abdomen profile the same could be done, or you might use the split thread approach.
One can dub most any material. At times I dub deer hair, other times on tiny flies, like a #30 Klinkhamer, I would dub peacock herl.

I usually just use a noodle but I have also read that some cut the seal into some 1/8 - 1/16 inch pieces prior to dubbing.

LOL!
I started laughing when I read that you had really used moose ear hair for the hackle. That is awesome! Very nice job on a hair-hackle fly.
lol...I'm still laughing. Great submission, Hans. Clever use of an out-of-the ordinary tying material.
