Playing around with some Guterman threads I had around the house... well on my fly desk. I like this stuff so far and it's pretty easy to tie with.

Wow Scott those look great! How do you like tying with that thread?

Pat,
It isn't bad tying with the thread. It does have one problem though. The metallic coloring of the thread is wrapped around a polyester thread core. It can separate quite easily if you aren't careful. Notice on the green pattern, the thread at the head is white. The metallic coating came off just before I whip finished it.
In the future, once I have the body build up, I will clip it off and tie in regular tying thread to finish the pattern. It wraps great though and comes in some pretty incredible colors.
It's kind of pricey though. I think it's around 5 bucks a spool for 200m.

Re: Effect Flies
Wow, I like those a lot. I will have to keep my eye open for that thread. The purple and green combination is my favorite, but the others are terrific too. Great job.

Thanks Ray,
They also have some metallic threads that have multi colors combined into one thread. There is a copper and silver combo that I love. I will make some of those tonight and try to get them posted for you.

Re: Effect Flies
Sounds cool, Scott. I look forward to seeing the new color as well.
PS - The purple and green one catches my eye because there is a series of flies called the "Moldy Plum" on the Fly Tying Forum web site. The main colors are purple (plum), green (mold) and wood duck (more mold). A few guys (myself included) have been tying variations of this color scheme in different styles of flies (streamers, steelhead flies, soft hackles, etc.). I think your Purple Effect could easily fit into the "Moldy" series (take that as a compliment please). I find there is something special about purple/green/tan color combination.
