Catskill inspired...

Experimenting at the vise today I tied a few Catskill style quill body dries. I've never used peacock quill before, it makes a beautiful body.
Anyhow I decided to tie a soft hackle version before calling it quits, thought I'd share the result...
Hook- 12#Tiemco100BL
Thread- White for underbody Wine for the head
Hackle- Partridge
Abdomen- Dyed Yellow Peacock Quill
Thorax- Natural hares ear
Here was the source of inspiration, I hope I don't get banned from the forum for posting a you know what.

The first one is almost beautiful.
The thread colour really shines.
"Almost" should be read "indeed".

Glad you like them folks
I've decided I love tying with peacock quill, don't know why I've never used it before.

I hope you aren't suggesting dangling the soft hackle underneath one of the dry's aka New Zealand style?

Hey
I'VE never done it (don't have the skills for that). But SOMEBODY might.
I love fishing a good dry as much as anyone else. The entertainment value is immense watching a group of little brookies all trying to be the first to sample but none of them succeeding in their exuberance.
It makes me happy just thinking about it!

"Inspired!!!" is the right word, all right. Goodness sakes, those are incredibly pretty flies. Those belong in frames...

The soft hackle version is quite similar to one I tie for a specific spring creek, but I use the little white and black feathers from the neck of a French Partridge skin as hackle. This started because I didn't have small enough partridge feathers to tie Size 18s and 20s. Yours, however, are much more graceful and your quill body work is impeccable. The Catskill dry is also
very nice, but I won't go too far on that topic
