Ruard,
I've used this extended body style for dry flies with some success, but I hadn't thought of it for soft hackles. I'll be interested in hearing the results.

I shall try them next weekend. The extended body-style I use is much easyer then what I see in the picture of your fly. How did you make your body?

Simple, if a little time consuming...
- Wick the chenille with a lighter to get the right taper
- Set a needle in your vice (pointed end out)
- Take your tail material (in this case paint brush bristles), place them along the "top" of the chenille and tye-in parallel to the needle
- Bring the thread rearward and then back to the tye-in point and cast off
- Brush the top surface with superglue, let set for a moment, and then slide the whole thing off the needle
- Complete fly with the extended body
The only trick is to keep the thread from twisting the chenille as you wrap-use soft loops rather than wrapping it as such.
I can't remember where I saw this method detailed, but the effect is quite unique.

Thank you Aaron. I presume that you mean: Wick the chenille with a lighter.
Thank you for posting. For the Palomino as an imitation of a Mosquito I rather use the plain chenille a little burnt on the end.

Ah yeah, Ruard, I forgot about those. and as a soft-hackle they make perfect sense. I tied some a bit ago as caddis emergers, and these are really nice bugs. thanks for sharing those.

Very nice ties Ruard!
Rainy's makes some nice extended bodies of various sizes and colors, worth checking out.
I like these a lot, I am going to have to tie some of these up, I can think of many applications to use this type of fly.

A super looking idea. They've got to be great fish catchers.
