Roy, I agree that both are lovely wee flees. Having said that, I'd grab the dark one from the fly box more often. Don't know why, it just floats my boat.

Where did you get the idea that wet flies, especially soft hackles, can't float?

In the days of horse hair lines/leaders they didn't have much choice but to float.

(I tie my snipe and purples on light wire hooks, in sizes 18 and 20, and fish them right on the film as midges.)

Is there something besides horsehair lines and leaders? Am I behind the times or something?

Yeah, silkworm gut works too, but it unfortunately sinks. :)

Floating wets worked in the past, and they still work. One more trick in the repertoire.

Thanks, guys,
the dark one is the preference of my trouts too
to float :oops: these you need to add a cork (aka bobber)
I'll have some on a finer hook too, so they sit on top.
