Bill,
This pattern is quite a looker! I like how you compared the natural insect with your pattern over the two pics. I was interested to see the ingredient "Bonefish Tan Krystal Dub" or is it simply "Tan Krystal Dub"? I ran out recently of some older stock of Tan Krystal Dub. I ordered a couple packs and when I opened up the package, I found out that the new stuff differed greatly in both color and consistency! I know that products change throughout the years but this dubbing was no where close to the old stuff that I was used to using! I hate to be picky! Has anyone else experienced this with dubbings or any other product common to your tyings?
Doug

Doug,
No dubbing, just a strand of each Krystal Flash wound around the RB UTC 70 for the rib.
I have a number of dubbings that don't pass the comparison test with others of the same brand and name, even bought near the same date.

As I study the photo of the insect, I find myself tempted to imitate the eyes with a small strip of orange foam. Or one of the orange cylinders.
Inspiring pattern Bill. Well done.

Brilliant idea Ray, my next flies will give that a try.

Stepping back to my tying table I saw Plan B... a Pack of Amber Zelon yarn taken out of my Expo box.
I decided I didn't want to try this first as a floating emerger so it now has a Zelon turban for the turbinate eyes.

I will thin the yarn down for the rest of the flies.

I also gave the yarn a twist before tying the strand back down on the shank.

Good looking patterns , Bill.
Through out the years I have found the dubbing materials have changed a great deal . Dye lots change, quality of materials have declined and the prices have gone up. I have been sourcing my own materials and working on my mixes for my own dubbing. It is also a lot of fun !

I see my error now Bill! I don't know what my brain was comprehending on that one!
The orange nose on each of your updated patterns is amazing! What a stroke of genius!
Carry on! D.
