Old Blue Dun

I've been playing with some Hotwire stash I've had for years. Here I took Leisenring's Old Blue Dun and replaced the yellow silk rib with Fl.Orange Hotwire. I like the pop! I was also playing on a new to me hook, Gaelic Syl Nemes up-eye soft hackle.
Thread: primrose silk and a dark cobbler's wax
Hackle: Blue dun hen
Tail: Rusty dun hen
Rib: Fl. Orange Hotwire small
Body: Muskrat with tips

That rib is not subtle at all. I do like the look. I wonder what the fish approval rating will be.

Marvelous variation Carl. The hot wire rib is a nice touch.
Where did you buy the hooks?
(Never mind…I just found them on Dette’s site)

With the hot wire rib, I would not hesitate to use it as an attractor in a three fly rig. Anywhere in the water column.

Yep, to be determined. I've never been afraid of a little pop or contrast. I used to do real well with an olive bodied flymph, partridge hackle and a fire orange Hotwire rib in NE Oregon streams. knowing fish don't quite see as we do, I have never found accentuating the ribbing to be turn off, and at times I do believe it can be helpful.

Carl,
I liked what you did with the wire rib.
Great looking pattern!

Nice!!
I can see you fishing it on point to get deeper on the swing with the original up the line in a 2 or 3 fly cast!!
Now I have to buy more wire colors for my meager supply of materials to test!

Carl,
A great mix of an old pattern with a new material. How do you like these hooks compared to other up-eye hooks you have used, or the straight-eye hooks you were bending up?
Thanks- Ken

These are are classy. Feel strong and sharp. A good Flymph base. Have not fished them yet though.
