Actually, Mark, that bit of nonsense was a poorly conceived way of poking fun at the way patterns get analyzed from time to time. Sometimes when I look at a fly photo, something meaningful will pop into my head that sounds just right and expresses exactly the way I feel about the fly. Other times, even though I may like the fly very much, I can't put my finger on what attracts me to it no matter how hard I try to figure it out.
In the case of your two most recently posted patterns, I really do like the Fudge Brownie fly; it incorporates several things that make it attractive to me (color scheme and proportion being the primary two), and your choice of natural materials perfectly compliment a a very handsome bead. The dubbing/ribbing work in the thorax area is also up to your usual fine standards.
The fly you posted previous to this one, however, left me without anything positive to comment on. This is strictly a personal thing and I understand that not everyone will share my views about it, but the use of patches of contrasting colors make this pattern appear disjointed to me ... it just doesn't flow the way most of your flies do.

I totally missed the Rhea Topping pattern. I had gotten behind on the posts and missed it on the earlier page. WILD FLY! I love the bead and the rib/dubbing on the front half. I thought the spey fly was your new post Mark. Your crankin um out faster than I can tye the little flies. Your hands must be a blur when your tying. :D

WOW, what can I say, I'm gobsmacked!!! 94 pages, this is a serious thread buddy and one to savour. I took this morning to go through the entire post and marvelled at some of your unique creations. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and feel like I know a bit more about the man behind the flies.

I love some your flies, they're all works of art but I guess some of them appeal more to my taste than others. That's art for you ;) Just wanted you to know I'll be following your thread from now on and look forward to your next rendition. :D

Yes Mark, sometimes there is nothing that pops into your head to say, other times there are. Your fly is art. So some flies will appeal to some people, and not other people. Other flies will appeal to the group that it might not have attracted before. Each is different, and says something different. Sometimes I just love a fly, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I comment on flies, sometimes I do not. (this is about any fly tyer's flies) If I don't comment, it doesn't mean I don't like it. I may like it, and I may be busy, and don't have time to at least say NICE FLY. Some flies speak to me very strongly, and I have to say it before I lose the thought. This fly was like that. I had to say what did, before I lost the thought. I love Impressionists like Monet. He was my favorite artist of all time. There are others that I find almost as good. Some I know people just love, but for me, it was okay. I know my flies are like that too. When I make it, I might think, this fly stinks. Later I see it, and think, it wasn't that bad. Sometimes I tye a fly, and think this is pretty darn good. Later I look at that fly, and say wow...how can I have thought that was a great fly? Now I can do so much better in that area. As I said, I love art. I don't love ALL ART, but a lot of it I do. I never have been a fan of the kind of art that looked like a monkey got a brush, and went to town, slinging paint all over a canvas. Some people can get all gushy over those, but I personally can't stand them. We are all different in our likes and dislikes. Thank goodness for that, or this world would be one boring place.

WOW! what brought all that on..........? i had biopsy surgery today.......and it hurts where they cut me........basically why i wasn't here all day. Anyway, thank you all very much for your communications........HIGHLY appreciated..............HIGHLY! ;) .....and i'm in full agreement with each and every one of you in terms of art and how we all react to it differently for different reasons..........that's why it's such a wonderful thing. In all of it's diversification, it still exist for a single reason, that runs on a two way street.
Different strokes for different folks, and that's a good thing. Like Kelly said.....(more or less).....aint nothin' worser than bordom. ;)

fly_fischa.....i appreciate the self babtisum.....and the kind words.....been wonderin' when or if you were gonna come around. 8-)

You might want to take it easy for a couple days to get some rest. You're always burning the candle on both ends, and planning to do more on top of it... Take some time to take care of yourself my friend. ;)

This is what I was referring to Mark. <Thankx everyone.........i'm beginning to realize more & more that when you don't say anything.....you got nothin' good to say...> It prompted me to say what I did. I hope you get better very soon. Pain is a rough thing to deal with. I've been down that road before, and I hate it. Let's hope you are back to your old self before ya know it. ;)

Thankx very much Kelly.........i have no idea when i'm gonna be back to.........whatever. But the sooner the better........... :( ........oh, and don't misunderstand (not that you are), i didn't mean anything, but to point out how insecure i can be at times, lmao.........when i mentioned bout not havin' anything good to say. There is absolutely nothin' wrong with that at all. Any artist worth a crap should be just as willing to take constructive criticisum as well as all whatever else, equally. i got very think skin (toughened up over the decades), so don't ever worry bout that. i am always willing to listen to any and all imput good, bad, or ugly, in a manor of speakin'. It's a blessing to even have a few folks who care enough to make that level of an investment. So thankx again. ;)
