Re: Artistic JazzFlies
i think that last one was a dud........... and while i actually like it a lot in hand..........the pic of it i posted suckx (in and of itself) and it makes the fly look pretty crappy by comparison to what it actually looks like in hand...........oh well.....
so here's a rather recent (in the last few days) tye...........dang i wish i could of had those wing feathers just a tad longer.......but sometimes you gotta make due..........."what's a fella to do?"..... Oh yeah, i already answered that.

How's about some Miracle Gro in the birdseed? Back on track for sure with this one, Mark -- the Wallendas would be proud.
Some of the same morons who throw their trash around in National parks also vote. That alone would explain the state of American politics. ~ John Gierach, "Still Life with Brook Trout"

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Mark what is the feather in the wing? Is it natural or dyed? I have a preference for natural but unfortunately birds don't always come in every colour of the rainbow.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
It's natural.....and right now i forget "exactly" what bird that is.............it's a Parrot of some kind............i'll let you know when i figure it out............might be an Amazon, or a Conour(sp?).............maybe "somebody" knows?................i get these feathers from allllllll kinna sources........and then they all get kinna mixed up round here sometimes.........
For me, recipes are not that important...............specially since i will never repeat the fly anyway..........you don't paint an original painting twice.........that's copying.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Mark - Can you explain the name of this fly (Flying Trapeeze)? I can't visualize the connection between the fly and the name. Usually, once I see the name, I can see the various elements of the fly. For some reason, this one escapes me. Pretty fly, by the way. The wing feather is breathtaking.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Btw, the Parrot i was trying to spell the name of, is the Conure.
Ray, it was just that underwing, and the overwing or topping, and the whole flow of the fly........i just saw it as "Swinging."
i'm not really into naming flies that much.........sometimes it comes instantly........just QUICK! It's right there.
Other times i can't think of anything i like or that seems to fit..........so i wait and then it comes.........and not always so successfully.....probably because i'm not that concerned with a name for a fly that much. It's kinna like the way Joe Henderson (the Phantom), used to come out and do a set.........6 tunes, no introductions of any kind, not the tunes, not the cats, nothing. Just hit and walk off the stage. That was his way.............let the music speak for itself.
i think of my flies as solos.....individuall solos more than entire compositions. Movements in a suite or concerto or symphony. The over-all concept IS the symphony............when i'm outta here, the entire body of work will be judged as a single piece of art. All the pieces standing on their own, as one. "We Together."
