Mark, sorry you still aren't up to tying. That is sad. I hope you feel like tying this weekend. I look forward to seeing what you will come up with next.

Re: Steelhead/Salmon Flymphs..... ;>)
i just tyed a fly Kelly..........nothin' special.........was inspired by the flies in the book that Kars sent me.....so i just slapped together somethin' similar to one in there. My hands are shakin' some, so i wasn't able to do a split thread number.......(that's what i wanted to do, but), so i used a loop.
Tail is Wooduck......body is a synthetic/natural dubbing blend.........collar/wing is Hungarian Partridge, with a little pink bead inside the hackle, real simple. It's all on a real nice Partridge Limmerick Wet Fly Hook.........beautiful little hook. i've got tons of flies around here that have never been photographed....so i dunno if it ever will be or not. It's not important. i just hadda tye somethin'.

Thanks for the pep talk/advise. If I din't have a prior arrangement to attend
to in Utah thai Summer I might have headed to Mt. Home, Ak.
Maybe find a 主人〔名人/マスター〕 there... ???
Perhaps the following Summer.

Mark, I am glad you felt like tying a fly, even something simple. It sounds like a great little fly!!

hank, this is not a good place for INTENSIVE learning.......on the same level as the Catskills. Not by a LONG shot. Not to mention, you need a small vehichle for daily driving in order to get around..............things are quite spread out...............fly shops, etc., etc., etc..........etc. In Roscoe, you could actually do almost all your daily errands, etc., on foot if you were at the Roscoe Campground. Grocery shopping, the post office, banks, fly shop, resturants, general shopping, are all within short walkin' distance. You could NEVER pull that off here.
Fishing here is good........nice TU Chapter, and (FFF Affiliated) NAFF, fly shops...........but you'll find that 90 some % of all the fly tyers are very limitied in what they tye and or what they have in-depth knowledge of...........and that is a result of the fact they do not take fly tying beyond a "catching" mentality. Which here.............means three flies.............wolly buggers, scuds, and midge larva. It's quite a shame, but that's how it is. You can learn those in a single day..............then what? Don't get me wrong............there are some talented tyers around here and there..........(Davy Wotten for instance).........but do "They" want to take the time to teach you without charging for the experience? Most likely not. Yes we have tyin' clubs/get-togethers........but nothing on the level of the CFTG in the Catskills. The Catskills have a 200 yr. tradition goin' on................you cannot compare that to a place like this.
Kelly..........thankx for the cheer....................i'm in major pain and it helps.

No need to thank me Mark. I was just expressing my thoughts. I care about you, and I'm concerned too. Just do a little to keep your mood up, but don't wear yourself out.

Nice ties Roadkill!
We do not have true Steelhead here, but do have Rainbow..... some of them big ones and I dare to say that orange herl tie would be hard pressed to be passed up by and self respecting Kiwi rainbow.
Is that bleached or coastal deer hair in the tails?

Most impressive indeed! Do you have any experience fishing with these, Roadkill? As a novice steelheader (and Great Lakes variety at that), I would expect the brighter of the two to attract more attention. Is that the case?
