Re: Woodcock and Hare Flymph
The wings are the real prize here when it comes to selecting hackles. Shooting your own birds always yields nicer feathers but, buying wings from eBay and shops are also fine.

Re: Woodcock and Hare Flymph
NJ, I picked up this pair of wings from Steve at Cookskill in the UK. I'd love a few more pair. Just so much variety in shades on a pair of wings. I'd love a skin too. It's on my radar at the upcoming shows. Thanks for the comment.
mkmury, if there is any fly that I've tied dozens of and for different reasons, it's a hares ear softie. All hook shapes and body tones, sparceness, action. I like this wet fly hook and a longer hackle length. The amount of dubbing on this set leans more toward a spider than a flymph but it does meet the definition. They all work well. Thanks again.

You are improving, William. Give us some more warts. I've heard that larger fish love them.William Anderson wrote:

Re: Woodcock and Hare Flymph
Thanks, John. This pattern will always find a place on my leader in any stream and throughout the season. Just works so I keep going to it. Glad you like it.
I believe this is an inch further down the wing from the top of the shoulder. Very mottled and soft with the right length. Love woodcock wings.
