I actually prefer Hebert-Minor black hen hackle for the Madison Cabbage. I can find a feather to suit every hook size on one of their fine necks.

I tied mine with black thread and it was the hot fly for us on the Firehole. I think it's the body sparkle and the crystalflash loop that the fish like.tie2fish wrote:This is not exactly the same, as it uses black hen instead of starling, but it's reasonably close. It seems there are as many recipes for the Partridge and Orange as there are fishermen. Some use a thorax, some don't, some tie with a tail, others don't, some use a rib others don't, what recipe do most on this site use? I'm just trying to nail down a recipe that generally produces decent results for catching trout and possibly salmon. Thank you.
