I love tying low water spiders. The possible creative variations are limitless. Typically, I use two contrasting hackles for the collars. Though I usually tie these in #6-#8 for fishing smaller coastal streams & pre-spawn upper Columbia trout, designs can be scaled down as small as #12 (reasonably) to meet smaller streams holding smaller fish. Freestone brookies & cutthroat love these in the smaller sizes.

Low Water Spider
Hook: #6 TMC 200R
Thread: Orange UNI 8/0
Tail: Golden pheasant tippet
Body: Orange Pearsall’s tying silk underbody & butt, copper tinsel, peacock herl twisted with the orange silk
Hackle: Orange guinea hen / gadwall ~ & finish with jungle cock cheeks.

Very Purdy! and buggy. Has Coastal Cutt all over it.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Definitely my kinda fly! Gorgeous fly Steve. I completely agree about the scaleablity of this fly. That is one of the things I love so much about wingless wet flies.

That is one drop dead gorgeous fly! I think I'm in love! It just shouts, "Steelhead"! Wonderful pattern and so well tied!!
