Those are simply lovely flies, Misako.

Misa,
Last evening, I fished the quiet ponds around my home with the lovely rod that Mark so graciously gave me last year. It is awesome and I can't help but know that Mark is talking to me thru this rod everytime I fish it. They are good conversations for the most part although he doesn't like what I do with my line hand at the end of each cast! What a great friend he was to me and so many others. What a beautiful spirit he his now and forever!

Misako-san,

I am just getting a chance to get back to this post, and mention another "ripple", thanks to Mark and yourself. When I visited you last year, you gave me a bunch of hooks that Mark would have wanted me to have. I have used many of them, but donated many to one of the best local tying events that I have participated in. It is an event called the "Rushford Kid's Fly Fest". This event is focused on kids, and providing them with a day of various fly fishing activities (casting, tying, study of insects). The hooks will be given to the kids, along with some other prizes that will hopefully get them interested in fly fishing. This was a lot of fun, and I think Mark would have enjoyed interacting with the kids.

Be sure to click on the links and then scroll down thru the post to see photos from last years event.

The giant hook you gave me, was used to create a gigantic soft hackle fly:

The kids got a kick out of it. I loved watching the expressions on their face as they saw the size of the hook.

Here is a nice image of Mark, you and I at the Roscoe Dinner. After seeing Mark's magnifying lens (hidden under the brim of his hat), I had to get a pair for myself. They are a nifty little item. Very handy, given my poor eyesight.

Here is a photo of Mark watching our friend VERN-O giving a tying demonstration.

Dear Kelly, Hank, and Bill,
Thank you for your comments about my flies. These tenkara flies are for trout in the fast current of the mountain streams. In the water, the hackle will be downward to the hook point as flymph flies. I will reduce the amount of hackle according to the speed of the current and the width of the river.
Hi Doug, Mark must be so happy to know that you enjoy fishing with his rod. I am sure that he is enjoying fishing with you, too. ;)
Ariel, please fish for us. Mark and I used to talking about going Stealhead fishing someday. When you tye some flies with his hooks, please post them here. I am appreciative.
Ray, thank you for reporting about the hooks. Mark and I love to teach kids tying flies. Thank you for your donation. I can imagine kids faces when they see the big fly. Make their eyes twinkling by teaching fly tying! I should tye fly using the big hook for kids too! And I will have a fun with them! So far, I am using that big hook to fix my wind knot after pinching down the barb.
I am preparing the trip to Harrisonburg, VA, Boiling Spring, PA and the Catskills. It will be a long one. I look forward to seeing some of you in the Catskills!! :P

Ray, I love that fly on the huge hook. I bet the kids got a big kick out of it too. That one should be put in a frame. :D
Misa, enjoy your trips. I have been to the Catskills 2-3 times. It is beautiful there. Make sure you bring extra warm clothing. I made the mistake of going for a July 4th celebration, camping. All I brought were SHORTS, and tee shirts. I thought I would freeze to death at night there. It rained all day, and was cold at night. It sure was a beautiful place though. I learned my lesson about the clothing issue too.

Misa, I am so glad you got to go there! I am sorry to hear it is raining. Put your rain coat on, and see if the fish will bite anyway! :D
