Vicki, actually you have every idea what your doin'.....that's self eveident by how your technique is exposed. For instance, for that hook.....your head is virtually perfect, IF.....that's (approximately) going to be your style of head in furure. It's a very nice head. You tag is applied nicely, tail, veiling......all the things are already commin' together on your first ever free style fly. Tells me all i need to know...........the more you do the better you'll get. What you need to remember and concentrate on now.....letting it just flow.....is the use of your imagination. You take what materials you have a run AMOCK! :D Simply be as creative as you possibly can.....as we say in the music....."Stretch Out!" ;)
When you run outta hooks i'll send you more. Find some gut, and if it isn't pre-twisted.....i'll hip you to how to do that :)

Ya'll just keep havin' fun.....(MOST important thing of ALL).....i'm lovin' it..........
hank/Jet, i tyed for at least 10 years before i ever started doin' the wacked-out flies.............i'd reccommend you get familier with, and your hands and fingers around regular winged wets, soft hackles, dries both Catskill style (including hairwings) & parachutes, terrestials, streamers, bass bugs, saltwater, and a myrid of other things, before you ever go off into the free style world. Without the muscle memory and training in fundemental techniques and a lot of experience, all mixed with a hell of an imagination.....it simply can't be pulled off. ;)

Beautiful fly, Vicki! The body is outstanding (soooooo smooooooth). Your a natural artist. Love the Christmas theme, too.

Oh didn't I tell you Ray? It's painted on!

No, not really, just kidding. I've been itching to use some holographic (but clear) tinsel I found at the dollar store. Some white tying thread with the tinsel over it gave me the impression of the candy cane with some stretch floss for the stripe. I can see what Mark was talking about with the head up the butt thing (had me stumped for a second) but the original idea was more like the Royal Coachman where the peacock flanks each side of the floss. I will be more careful in the future!

The idea of the gut has me intrigued. I will be doing some research!

Vicki, you can usually find gut on ebay.....or if you buy some Partridge CS6JP or CS5DB hooks, the gut will come with the hooks. And it's exceptionaly nice gut. Contact Mark Hamnett by googling Partridge, and he can ship you the hooks. You can also get it from Bryant Freeman up in Canada.....(the Partridge gut).....you can find him here. http://www.streamerlist.ning.com He's a member of that site and is there often. If your straped.....just get some nice white Dacron fly line backing. Works just fine. ;) Takes dye just great too.
i have blind eye hooks all set aside for you when your ready as well.....and more eyed hooks also, already packaged and ready to send actually. :D So just keep at it. "Hard Work When Your Havin' FUN." 8-)

I do have white backing here. I think I will reserve the gut for when I have more experience but a little research into it won't hurt! I guess I need to figure out how to attach it properly now. Does that link you sent show that?

I go to work thinking about the next fly. I've already got the ideas for at least three more (and probably more) in my head. Thanks a whole heck of a lot Mark. I don't have time for work anymore!
