Orange partridge

Post by Terrestrial12 » Mon Apr 03, 2023 3:06 pm

Just a simple orange partridge I tried to make a little interesting with some 200 year old French silk.

Hook- mustad 3366 (my favorite spider hook) size 12
Abdomen- vintage orange silk thread ribbed with vintage orange silk floss
Hackle- brown partridge

Beautiful T12, the hook is very classy and the silk is very nice.

Marvelous dressing. Beautifully executed.

What can you tell us about the 200 year old silk? Very interesting.

Ray the silk came from a French costume designer. Apparently she comes from a long line of dress makers and her great grandmother left her a building full of vintage silks, tinsel, and some weird hybrids that are silk threads with wire twisted in as one of the strands. The threads and flosses are INCREDIBLE. Wayyyyy softer, more sheen and more translucent than anything I've ever used

T12,
That is one stinking awesome pattern you have created! I thought the story behind the vintage silk was amazing! Have you thought of other patterns using some of the neat materials you have described?
Thanks for asking about this Ray! Your timing is impeccable!

Reminds me of a BrkTrt fly; Alan tied a very similar fly.
