The dark tips on the hackle fibers add an extra element of life to the pattern. Very nice!

I've tied a few of these in the past but don't think I've ever fished them. I have full rooster and hen skins with lots of nice hackles on both of them. Anyone have some soft hackle dressings that use pheasant hackles? Thanks.

My favorite bug is the October Caddis and my Favorite Fly for it is my OC soft hackle tied with a brownish cock pheasant feather.

I use the smaller neck feathers on many soft ackles as well. Rump feathers are good for steelhead soft hackles and speys.

I usually tie it with a my own old blend of dyed rabbit furs and a few colors of Aunt Lydia's Rug yarn. I use seal only on some of my steelhead flies.

But i wasn't prepared to tie this fly at the 2013 FFI International Fly Fishing Fair in West Yellowstone. So a trip to Bob Jacklin's shop after the first day of fishing set me up with Orange Arizona Semi Seal to tie the second day. It was my hot fly on the fall run fish going up the Madison.
