From Mike Hardings Book. North Country Flies The Violet Midge.

Hook. Daiichi 1480 size 14.
Silk. Pearsalls Gossamer Salmonberry.
Body. Same.
Thorax. Mole.
Legs. Jackdaw neck feather.

Interesting. When I read the name I was expecting a different color (purple/violet).

I may have caught one fish ever on a starling purple (too lazy to buy snipe). Purple zebra midges, however, kill.

yeah, I laughed the first time I saw a purple haze too.
What the heck is that????
Turns out it was hot from ronr's neighborhood all the way back to the tip of the mitt.
Not so much here in the N/E but brookies and steel chomp on blue.

I am hoping in my next lifetime, Purple works for me. It is an amazing color for trout. Just not for me. :D

Maybe because it's still early and I'm only on the first cup off coffee, but I read the title of the thread as 'Violent Midge Spider'. I couldn't figure where you guys were getting purple from, let alone what would turn a midge violent. So yeah, purple never works for me either.

I think the salmonberry version works, though. I actually have a spool of that...
