Local Soft Hackle Fly
This is a local soft hackle fly that a friend of mine showed me a while back. They call it the tooty fruity and for me it works best in the evening. When tying these, I pre-make a dubbing rope with primrose silk and dubbing (blonde/red).
Hook: #18 Dohiku barbless
Thread: UTC ultra thread 70 Denier Yellow
Tail: Coq de leon
Body: Dubbing rope
Wire: XS Gold Ultra wire
Thorax: Natural mole
Hackle: Speckled hen hackle
Ray, I am sorry that I did not answer you before but I do use a pair of 2X glasses when I tie small wets.

"Tuppishness"?? Not sure if that's a word, but have to agree. Very nice looking fly. I'm 72, and tie with 2x reading glsses also.

Any idea why this would be more effective in the evening? Have you noticed any difference over the season?
It’s so nice seeing your creations again.

Mmmmh, Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate, what's not to like. I'm going to add a few to my box and see if the local brookies like a choice of flavors.

Re: Local Soft Hackle Fly
Joaniebo, thanks for the link and it is a great read! For sure this is a "hybrid" of the Tups Indispensable. Where I do most of my fishing the Sulfur's start pouring off in the late evening and to answer Ray's question, is why I think this fly works great in the evening. What amazes me is that the person that showed me this fly knows very little about the world of soft hackles, etc. and has no idea of what a Tups Indispensable fly is. He gave a blank stare when I told him that his fly reminded me of a Tups fly but laughed when I told him how the name was derived.
I swing two flies when I fish this on a 11' 3 wt Microspey rod with a light Scandi line designed by Steve Godshall and it is a blast. It is as close as I can get to fishing out west. Thanks again for sending me that link.

Looks like it would be a very useful fly to have in my box
