DIY Tool - Cuticle Trimmer/Velcro Brush Tool

I made a simple modification of a cuticle trimmer, by lashing a small strip of velcro to the other end. I was tying with the tool earlier today and love how it worked. The cuticle trimmer is super sharp, and trims off the tying thread very nicely (no stray fibers).
A quick spin, and the velcro comes into action, brushing out the dubbing bodies and the hackle fibers.
Anyway, nothing fancy, but still a handy little tool.

Most clever, Ray ... combining the last two steps of the tying process in one simple, practical tool. This would easily replace my find/pick up/employ-razor-blade-to-trim-thread, followed by find/pick up/employ old toothbrush-to-brush-out-body-and-hackle. Kudos!

that one end of the tool is also one used by sewers to cut the thread. Mine came from a fabric store. It does not have the velcro dubbing brush on the end. It does have the equivalent of a bodkin needle on it though.

I found this one in the local supermarket, next to the nail polish supplies. They have a range of gadgets (tweezers, mustache brushes, etc) which work nicely as tying tools. Plus good ole Sally Hanson’s Hard As Nails clear nail polish. Great head cement.

The thing from Joanne's Fabrics is a "Seam Ripper". Very sharp. I drilled a small hole in the end of the plastic handle with a Dremel tool, and Super Glued a needle in there. I Use the cutter to cut thread when finishing a fly, and the bodkin... for, you know. Fabric stores also have a very good selection of fine point scissors. I use those a lot.

Thanks for the tips Rodger. It is great seeing you posting. I hope things are going well with you.
By the way, I was once again thankful to you last weekend, when I was making spun bodies. I was using the offset dentist tweezers you sent me several years ago. They are my favorite tweezers for working with dubbing. Thanks again buddy.
