Just a few of the old styles. Mainly as a photography exercise.

Partridge & Yellow

Partridge & Orange

Partridge & Chartreuse

Brown Hackle Peacock

Pheasant & Black (variation)

I had some thread in the yellow, orange and chartreuse that is quite fuzzy- so used it here to see how it would show in the photos. Not that I think fish would mind, but it looks horrible in the photos. The Partridge is Hungarian (thank you Ray). All were tied on Finney Irish Lough #14 barbless- except the P & Chartreuse which is on a #12 Mustad vintage sproat (thanks William).
The variation in the Pheasant & Black is the fact there is no Pheasant, the hackle is Grackle (thanks Rob Kern) some fantastic feathers on those birds, thread is Kinkame silk- black and it is not ribbed with gold wire as the others are.

Jeff, great lookin' pix, the flys ain't to shabby either...

Have to ask, what is it that you have holding the flys,
an old mini hobby vise ????? Whatever it is it fits nicely.

Holding the flies? One very old fly tying vice. There is a makers name on it (was under the rust!) but I cannot make it out. The stem has been broken at some stage, I have seen pictures of them with a ball at the bottom of the shaft that was held in a claw like arrangement that allowed a bit of adjustment to the position of the jaws.

Jeff - man, you've been busy! Outstanding set of flies & photography. Your light box brings out the colors in the flies. Displaying the flies in the old vise is a nice touch.

I am confident these flies are going to work magic on your new cane rod.

Thanks Ray. I still want to get it to a stage where they are straight off the camera, bit more time taken in composition and I might be able to get away with it. These are straight off then just resized to suit the forum. If I was nice I would edit out the bits of the inside of the box that are white and could remove the vice, but me and "rough & ready" work well together!

Here is a shot of the old vice on the keyboard with a few other nick knacks to give some idea of size.

Following your current project with much interest, Jeff. Your photography has blossomed almost overnight, and the flies you are showing us are classically wonderful as well. Please keep us in your loop.

This is fun to watch. You've complicated things with a killer set of flies to comment on and some fine pics. Nicely done on both accounts. I've seen drawings of that vise too. It makes for an interesting element, especially for larger flies. It's a good idea to get it as clean as possible in the camera. I still have to do a crop and resize, but fussing too much before uploading them would limit how much I would post. these are really coming together.
