Thank you for your excellent and very informative post. I grew up in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. When I was a kid there was a 5 cents bounty on Starlings (for a pair of legs) they played havoc with the soft fruits like chrries and peaches. Us youngsters would go afield with BB guns and fill bags with the birds for pocket change. About that time in the sixties I found I could make more tying flies than with a paper rout. Many a starling found it's way to my tying kit. I love the dark iridescent plumage but had not thought of dying them. Another project on it's way.
