Hi all,

This fall, I did a lot of fishing on some new water, which was nice. The purple gnat was a top producer for me and I used my 2 wt and 4 wt David Reid bamboo trout spey rods. It was something new and a nice change to swing flies on a two handed rod.

Hook: Tiemco 102Y size 17
Body: Purple Turkey barbules
Hackle: Starling
Thread: Purple Pearsall's silk

A fly that just might convert some of the "purple haters" that visit here!

Thanks- Ken

Great looking purple fly. I've been a fan of purple for some time. More than a bit envious of the David Reid trout spey rods. Always wondered how a bamboo spey would feel in the hands.

purple turkey... can't find that at my local shop.... sounds tasty however. the spey thing has been high on my list lately. Went fishing last week with the Line Speed Jedi on the Deschutes. We both fished hard on a very wet and fishy day, but neither touched a fish. Another angler just down stream was nymphing and doing much better... Some days the swing just aint the thing.... but I still like it,
