Hi,
After the great down eyed versus straight eyed hook debate, I hat a look through my old stuff and found some coarse fishing hooks that were straight eyed, and had a play.

I could get used to them and will be interested to see over the season if they fish differently at all. One thing that is a bit annoying with these is that the hook is off set, quite markedly.

Maybe slightly annoying at the vice but many believe offset hooks to be a better hooker.GlassJet wrote:Hi,

Hi Otter,
yes, so some people say. I use the B100 which is off set, but nothing like those in the photos - I had to have the vice at a pronounced angle to get the shank straight! lol Bit extreme for my taste. But again not designed for tying flies.

Re: Going straight
with a mild push of the thumb you can straighten that offset pretty easily. They might result in a better hook-up. I dont know, but I dont think you'll do any discernable damage to the integrity of the hook strength with a little nudge.

Lovely flies. I've usually tyed with TDE and TUE hooks, but am growing to like the SE version as well. I'll have to buy some and give them a go.
