I forgot to answer your question above about which dubbing I used in the above patterns. Sorry so late! I used Hareline Dubbin brand - Krystal Dub Olive Brown #KD265. It is a very close substitute for Carl's original recipe which is tucked away in my pre-packs box in the closet. It is also found on Carl's web-site!
Have you given them a try at the vice? Simple and so enjoyable to tie and fish!

Good point Mike. This is really some excellent work showcased here and pretty much everywhere else in this forum. We’re fortunate to have such an incredible group!
One of these days I should get around to doing a thread on scotch tide hackle. I’ve never seen anyone else do it except Ivan and he taught all of us in his group.

That would be excellent Ray, thanks very much for the offer. One of the keys with scotch tie hackle is that all of the larger feathers at the bottom of the neck now have a use other than being relegated to the streamer pile. We’ve all had that feeling: you find a beautiful honey dun neck but the size 16 feathers that you need are in very short supply. Maybe we’ll get 20 or 30 of them. But using the scotch tie method, all of those large feathers are now useful!

Dana, I had to go look and yes, your contribution to a March Brown swap in February 2020 was
a scotch style pattern. And to stay on topic, Sanders' MB soft hackle was in that swap too!
I believe it was ronr who posted a picture of a shadowbox from that swap?

Fantastic looking fly. I keep telling myself I should tie March Browns but never do and looking at these flies is the kick in the butt that I need to get me tying these patterns.

Also, this scotch hackle method I'm very interested in, so I can't wait to see that tutorial come along.
