Very cool thread.....as are all threads it seems that Mike chimes in on. i love learning from the guy.....never knew encyclopedias came in human form. Thankx for all the help/info you provide Mike.
i LOVE dubbing, any and allllllll dubbing. And other than for dry flies.....the longer the fibers the better, as i love to pick it out so much.....to varying degrees of course depending on wether it's a fishin' fly or a show fly.
Just a quick note: for those who might want to learn as much as they possibly can about dying materials and or Seal's fur, google Dave McNeese. Dave lives in Oregon and is as knowledgeable about all that as anyone on this planet. He's a world class tyer and has been for 40 or 50 years. When it comes to what he does.....they ALL look to him, as the Master.....and he is. i've been lucky enough to get to know him pretty well, and watch him tye all day four different times at the CFFC&M. And he sat right behind me at the show in Albany, Oregon in '08. My wife and i took him and his wife out to dinner.....we took casting lessons informally from him.....this guy is the master of all.............builds boo rods, reels, does it all.
You can find hm very easily and he won't mind helping anyone. He gave me probably a couple dozen flies, and so much of his time and energy.....very generous soul. To tell you the truth.....he's actually a living legend.....for real.
