Magpie herl heads !!!!!

Post by NightWatchman » Thu Apr 15, 2021 8:41 pm

I’m having a very difficult time with this material. It breaks often when I’m trying to wind it and I’m use to
fragile material or when I accomplish wrapping it the herl head looks terrible. Should I be using one strand ? or multiple pcs? Any advice I’d appreciate it.

It's been awhile since I did a dressing with magpie herl but if I recall, the individual strands are quite delicate....if my memory isn't totally gone, I believe I used 3 ir 4 pieces tied in by the tips.

Thanks Bob I’ll practice with several fibers. My patients is waning with the warming weather and the second shot in my arm. Feel like jumping in the car with some of my old high school friends and driving on down to Miami beach !😎

Perhaps try wrapping the herl around the thread prior to wrapping - similar to making a peacock herl ‘ rope’
? ?

Jeckle: let’s tell him to pluck feathers from our crow cousins - 😮
