Lil' Dorothy

I tied several of these when we tying in the Center:



I fished them hard when we were in the Catskills, but no joy.

When I got home, I tried them in the Gunpowder, where the dorothea hatch was actually in progress. It took eight trout, the only fly of the afternoon to catch anything. They really do work.

Is that the original embroidery yarn you have used for the abdomen?

Your experience sounds a little like my own with this pattern. Nothing would touch it over here for a start, then for some reason it was all they wanted. Not as if we have any dorothea hatches over here either! There just must be something it has that was causing a trigger late in the season here.
Glad it ended up working well for you and you kept the faith.
Bet Mark wished he could have been there to see you tying such fine renditions of his fly.

I tyed up several variations of Mark's lil'Dorithy while in Roscoe. One of the versions used a dubbing blend of hares ear and wallaby (thanks Jeff) for the thorax. The flies went into my fly box, but I forgot to try them.

Geez, I never thought of Wallaby. Was it not a bit dark, or was that the variation?

Yup. Bob has manly hands.

The wallaby was not to dark. I liked the resulting blend.
