After the storm

A snow storm blew through last night. The temps were mild this morning when I got up, but the snow was still coming down. I had today off so I figured, what the heck. I drove through the storm and arrived at the river about 15 minutes after sunrise, and just as the storm broke.

I put an attractor on (egg) then dropped a size 16 SH off that, then droopped a size 24 Baetis emerger off the SH.

All but two fish took the SH, the other two took the Baetis.

This river is famous for 10lb+ trout. I managed alot of 14 to 16 INCH fish, but no Hogs.

Nice Dubby ;) , a 2 1/2lber on my local would be well on the way to being a hog, 14" fish usual give a decent scrap.
I still have 4 weeks till kick off, can't wait.

Nice pics and nice looking river

11lb Bow is my best fish in this section, but that was many years ago. Close to 15 years. I dont get to fish this place very often anymore, as it is combat fishing on the weekends. It was nice to have a mile of river to myself for a few hours.

Thanks for the kind words folks. I felt cabin fever closing in on me and had to get to the water. I am hoping to float the lower Gunnison next Saturday.

Helluva day...

Beautiful trout. I love their rich colors. Sure looks like some healthy water.

Great fly, whatever it's called. ;)

Thank you sir. I am pretty sure it was just luck and solar flares that made the fish feed. I live by the saying that, 'Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while' .
