I think this is a very cool idea for a thread 8-)

Unfortunately, at the moment, my books, like my magazines, are strewn all over the floor so not easily photographed!

But shall consider the thread a slow burner, and as i tidy up will contribute pic.

Andrew.
ps - want Rough Stream Nymph.

Here is a great general fly dressing book.
Modern Trout Fly Dressing (1932) by Roger Woolley
A huge number of patterns and one of the best fly
tying tips books I have ever read.
Not very impressive at first appearance but do not
be fooled. It is also one of the best buys around.
Now out of print, but there are lot on AB Books,
at very low prices.

Donald let me know about Modern Trout Fly Dressing several years ago. One thing I have found out about Donald, if he suggests a book, buy it, you won't regret it. I wholeheartedly agree with his comments about Woolley's book. Though unimpressive in size, it is packed with good information on tying wet and (my apologies) dry flies. The list of patterns is impressive in a book of any size.

Again, my thanks, Donald.

Ray,

Abe Books is my friend. My wife, who is just starting to see the light on wet fly fishing, isn't quite convinced, but I did see her skimming through Border River Angling the other day.

Here is a list of what I have in my library and use for references (Many are 1st Editions):

The Northern Angler (1837) - Kirkbride
The anglers Manual (1836) - Turton
The Teesdie Angler- Lakeland
Copy of Swarbrick Manuscript (Typed) 1817
The Anglers Vade Mecum (1700) - Chetham (Leslie Magee says that this is one of the most important books for NC flies)
River & Brook Trouting (1916) Edmonds & Lee (These two were members of the same angling club as me and I, with a fellow angler, are in the process of bringing this important publication into this century with a new book)
Handbook of North Country Flies (1988) - Fogg
The Art of the Wet Fly (1979) - Fogg
Wet-Fly Tying & Fishing (2009) - Fogg
A Guide to North Country Flies (2009) - Harding
Wet Flies (1995) - Hughes
The Practical Fly Fisher (1880) - Jackson
International Trout Flies (1969) - Lawrie (In fact I have all many of his books but this is important as it has information on soft hackled flies from Europe in it)
The Driffield Angler (1806) - Mackintosh
Presenting the Fly to the Trout (1967) - Mold
Copy of manuscript by Prtichard
Fly Fishing - The North Country Tradition (1994) Magee (My favourite and 'go to' book)
The Spider Guide - Greenhalg (THis is a small paper refernce booklet printed by Fly Tying and Fly Fishing - probably still available)
The soft hackled Fly (1993) - Nemes
The Soft Hackled Fly Addict (1993) - Nemes
Two Centuries of Soft Hackled Flies (2004) - Nemes
The book of grayling (1888) - Pritt
North Country Flies (1995 re-print) - Pritt
Copy of Manuscript by Tom Forsyth - A book of Flies (copies Reids flies and add quite a few others. Patterns only)
Clyde Style Flies (1971) - Reid
The Fly Fishers Entomology (1884 - 3rd Edition) - Ronalds
Fly Fishing for Grayling (1999) - Roberts
Grayling Angler (1982) - Roberts
The Practical Angler (1857) - Stewart
Let's Fish the Clyde (1973) - Sharp (a little gem)
Grayling and how to catch them (2004 re-print) - Walbram

And I have 1500 plus other books. No wonder I am broke.
