First trip of the year...Pink is the new black
Last weekend me and my son Dima was fishing for the first time of the season. Half the lake still covered by ice. Wet in the air and cold. Fantastic to wet the (leaking) waders again but no fish in sight (see pic below)
A warm week made melted the ice and Dima went there yesterday. Hard work for a day and finally he got this nice trout.I trained him well because he got in on an all pink mallard softhackle!! Happy dad!

Ouch, my eyes are bleeding! Now send Dima to bed, it is too early to go fishing. He ought to wait at least two more months .

I got cold just looking at that first picture. I am eagerly awaiting ice out here. Saw an ice breaker on the Penobscot River a couple days ago, so fishing would be difficult at best.
Lovely trout and nice fly. Every now and again you just have to show them something they haven't seen before.

Burrrrrr......that brought back memories of winter steelhead fishing in Oregon. Good for Dima! That takes some grit and it paid off.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

When they get done send them up to the Aroostook. They closed so many roads up here due to drifting snow that my wife was trapped in Fort Kent over night.REE04419 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:18 am I got cold just looking at that first picture. Those are beautiful pictures, Stendalen. I love the first one of your son fishing the lake.

I just caught the part about the leaking waders. That makes for a truly miserable trip. Funny how one really nice fish makes it all worthwhile though.

Striking photo, Martin, and that a great fish by Dima. Thank you for sharing.

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
