greenheart,
I've seen his book, and while I have not followed his instructions for making a loop rod, I did make some horsehair lines. Actually, it's not a bad line, either. It's a little stiffer than a furled leader made with mono and casts very nicely. However, the one thing above all else that has captivated me with tenkara fishing is the almost minimalistic simplicity of it. Making a horsehair line is not an exercise in simplicity. At this point I'm going back and forth between mono and fluorocarbon for the line. Fluorocarbon is enough heavier and stiffer than mono that the difference between 14# mono and 15# fluoro is definitely noticeable. I may end up using both - mono for delicacy and fluoro if there is a breeze.
