One thing that strikes me regards manipulation is the area of weighting of flies for fishing teams. The relative weights and profiles and positioning of each fly will impact on the bahaviour of the whole team. Where the heaviest fly is positioned will have a major impact on how the team behaves.
If we are looking for subtle movement then this whole area is well worth investigation and experimentation.
