Was wondering what you guys thought of the color ? Tied on a Partridge spider sz 12

I think the body color goes well with the hackle, which appears to be a darker (brown) partridge feather, as opposed to the lighter (grey) partridge. It would be interesting to see your fly against a different color (white) background. Of course, 6b is "sherry spinner", which is more subdued than either 6a "gold" (light orange) or 19 "hot orange" that are usually used when tying the Partridge & Orange pattern.

I don't recall whether it was on this Forum or on the Classic Rod Forum, but there's several fly tiers that feel that the Java Brown and 6b silks both look very much alike when wet.

I think it's 6b (Sherry Spinner) and 32 (Classic Chestnut) that are difficult to tell apart. Look at Phil's Wet/Dry Color Chart that is pinned near the top of this section.

So correct me if I’m wrong guys but I thought I had read somewhere that Pearsalls 6b was the original color
thread for the P & O. Truth or myth ? Thanks.

I've never heard that 6b was the color to use. Then, the fly would have been called the Partridge & Sherry Spinner! I believe early references simply call for a body of "orange" silk, so that would be 6a "light orange" (sometimes called "gold") and then later 19 "hot orange". I was under the idea that 6b "Sherry Spinner" was a later add to the Pearsall's color rainbow.

I will look for more details. Perhaps, 1 of the experts will jump in to clarify.

Most references I've seen call for 6a for the P&O. That's what I've always used.

So I probably made the mistake of choosing 6b and not 6a. Thanks for the feedback fellas.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it because the fly itself looks impressive. I like the color of the silk with that hackle,
