So tonight I attended my tying clubs monthly meeting. We always have a prize table to raffle off items. I was lucky and won an English Jay bird skin. As a materials holic Im always excited to find new materials. My question is, what patterns out there call for Jay feathers??? Are there wet patterns?

Lots of traditional Irish wet fly patterns use jay hackles.The blue feather is split to make a hackle. The brownish beige feathers can be used as a corncrake substitute.

Jay has has feathers that are excellent for wing on wet fly. Primary feathers snippets are used for wet imitation of mayflies around surface. Absolute prime tying material.
Blue feathers are famous for Invictas' throat.
Body feathers are incredibly soft, though I do not use them as thay deserve.
