I have a friend who has pheasant wings and he asked me what could he tie with these wings. I have a pheasant skin, but no wings. So to help him out I thought maybe you all could help me out with this topic?
I figure a wing is a wing is a wing, with coverts and primary and secondary feathers. I think the primary and secondary feathers would be good for tails, and of course coverts good for hackle.
Do pheasant wings have biots?
Anything you can tutor me so I can help my friend is greatly appreciated.

Re: Pheasant wings
Pheasant, like chickens, ducks and turkeys have biots. They are located on the sides of the primary wing feathers. Like chicken, they may be too small for a practical application.

Re: Pheasant wings
I have a couple sets of pheasant wings, which I bought from our local Cabelas store. They were selling them in the dog training section of the store. Apparently the wings are sometimes used to train hunting dogs. I bought the wings, with intentions of using the quills for traditional winged wet flies, but have not played around with them yet.

Re: Pheasant wings
That reminds me. Cabelas was also selling freeze dried Bobwhite wings in the same section. The covert feathers on the bobwhite wings were superb for small spider patterns/flymphs/soft hackles.

There is a style of tenkara fly that uses a alula feather from a pheasant.
