Nutria Skin

While watching Old Hat tie at the FFI in Bozeman, he let slip that he has used Nutria in some of his flies... since some of you may not be familiar with this denizen of the Louisiana marsh, I thought I'd share this little tidbit. I've just received a beautiful nutria hide from Centrailia Hides and Furs. I also couldn't resist picking up a little muskrat belly, and otter face, and a rabbit skin. All very reasonably priced.

In addition to being a very nice hide for flies.. .I'm to understand, nutria makes a darn good gumbo...

Very nice pelt. I've done business with Centralia Hide and Fur for a couple of decades since they were right down the road from our old house. I was usually buying buffalo rawhide though.

I’ve never tied with Nutria. Looks like I’ve been missing out. Lots of nice colors on that skin.

I look forward to seeing what you create with this fur. ;)

Now if I can only convince Old Hat to share some of those nutria marvels with me...
