Mindlin and Rosenman silk

Post by tups » Tue May 28, 2019 2:53 pm

I don’t have much opportunity to post anything of value here but I recently found some silks at a flea market. Apparently a New York firm. Can’t find much more info than that. Anyone have any knowledge about M&R silk?

Wow! Those look extremely nice. Have you tyed with the silk yet? How does the diameter compare with Pearsall’s Gossamer?

I have not used M&R silk before, but it is now on my materials watch list.

Thank you for sharing.

Have not tied with it yet. Need to respool it onto smaller spools. It’s comparable to pearsall’s in diameter. Very shiny. The spools were each wrapped in old newsprint to preserve the color I suppose. One of the pieces of newspaper had a date of 1933. May have been in storage since the FDR administration.

Interesting court case surrounding M&R from the 30's.

I love the colors. ...even the purple.

Mike,

I appreciate the link to the court case about Mindlin & Rosenman. Having grown up in Stroudsburg, PA, it has some "local flavor" for me. One of the lawyers mentioned is C. R. Bensinger. I went to elementary school at St. Matthew's in East Stroudsburg with 3 of his grand daughters: Mary, Margaret (Peggy) and Elizabeth. I haven't been back to Stroudsburg in 25+ years, but I know Elizabeth (Bensinger) Weekes joined her father and uncle in the law firm now known as Bensinger & Weekes. My Little League Baseball team was First Stroudsburg National Bank, also mentioned in the court case.

Sometime I need to return to the Pocono Mountain area to fish the old places: Brodhead Creek, McMichael's Creek, Pocono Creek, Bushkill Creek, and Devil's Hole Creek.

Thanks again- Ken
