First of all, I tend to be a purist as far as materials are concerned. I like my natural dubbings, hackle, etc. That being said, I stopped by another fly tying forum and saw a reference to this. I am not, nor have I ever, put in a plug for a fly tying material company, save Jimsflyco and Cookshill. This did impress me in it's photography and material descriptions and examples. Go to https://www.semperfli.net/ and look under the masthead for "Check our amazing flip book catalog". I thoroughly enjoyed the short tour I took through it's pages and may, yes, may, make a purchase or two.

REE that is quite a catalogue. Can't imagine the cost to produce that dude. My local fly shop can't find a distributor for the stuff, and buying direct from Semperfli must be a hassle. So far, aren't carrying their materials.

Mike Watriss at Great Feathers stocks some of their stuff.

I am enjoying SemperFli's .1 MM wire, and their Nano silk.

For me, it is amazing as it is hard to get too much bulk on size 20 and smaller fly patterns.





Pardon the fly quality and the poor photography. I am not at home for a week or so longer. These were the only pics I have of the Semperfli materials.

Amazing flies Wayne! Definitely “eye candy”. I’d fish those in a heartbeat.

Great flies, Wayne. What size Nano-Silk are you using? I was given a spool to test and see if I liked it. I didn't, it dulled a new pair of Dr. Slick scissors.

Ron, I am using the 18/0 Nano silk. I think it is 40 Denier.

The first pic is when I noticed my scissors dulling using the Nano Silk


After that I started using a razor blade to cut the thread.
If I was a betting man, I would wager it is Kevlar.

Thanks, Wayne. I'll give the 18/0 a shot. I have a couple boxes of disposable scalpels laying around that should handle the thread cutting chores.

In the Semperfli catalogue they suggest you use a blade and not your scissors. I've been using it as well and find it very good for small flies and when extra pressure needs to be put on the thread. Plus you can use the white and color it with markers.
