Grade of Quail
When it comes to Quail skins, I see there are three grades, #1, #2 and pro. Can anyone help me to choose which grade I need. I tie in sizes from 12 to 18 mostly.

Re: Grade of Quail
The pro version tends to be cheaper due to tears/wholes in the skin (hunting damage). Generally the feathers are the pretty much same. #1 quality are very clean, almost display quality bird skins. I’ve got game bird skins from Blue Ribbon flies in both the pro and #1 quality. Both are useful for tying.

Thanks Ray. Blue Ribbon was where I saw the promotion for the skins and thought Quail might work good for me.

Quail have nice colors, but the feather stems can be challenging in larger sizes. You should have no issues on the smaller stuff. Tye in the hackle by the tip.
